Parks W. Boyd, a prominent citizen of this place, died at his home on Church street, at about 5 o'clock Saturday morning, Oct. 1, of kidney trouble. Mr. Boyd took sick several weeks prior to his death. He was born at Mahoning Furnace [aka Colwell, Armstrong County,Pennsylvania] on 30 September 1853, and was a son of Samuel M. Boyd and Mary J. Thompson .
The greater part of Parks W. Boyd's life was spent at Rimersburg, Clarion county, where his parents had located. For about 20 years Mr. Boyd has represented the firm of Sibley Tyler Co., wholesale dry goods and notions of Philadelphia, and he was well known throughout Clearfield, Clarion and Jefferson counties. He was a man with high ideals of Christian citizenship, and always took a keen interest in the progress and prosperity of the town. He was a consistent member of the First Presbyterian Church, in which organization he was a wholehearted worker, not only here but in other towns where he had previously resided. In the Sunday School he was a faithful teacher. He was also an Elder in the church and member of the Presbyterian Brotherhood, and a Director of the Young Men's Christian Association. All work of a Christianizing influence appealed to him and he took a deep interest in all that was uplifting and helpful.
Besides his wife, he is survived by the following named sisters and brothers: Mrs. John Reinard and Mrs. S.E. Stewart, of Braddock; Mrs. M.I. Criswell, of New Bethlehem, Mrs. Harry McMurray, of West Austentown, Ohio; William H. Boyd, of Rimersburg, and LaFayette C. Boyd, of Punxsutawney.
Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday evening, Oct. 2, attended by many sorrowing friends and relatives. Rev. Chas. A. Clark conducted the services. On Monday morning the body was taken to Rimersburg, where, in the Presbyterian church services were held, conducted by Rev. A. P. Bittinger, of Rimersburg, and assisted by Rev. Clark.
Besides the near relatives from this place, there were about 20 other friends from Punxsutawney and attended the funeral at Rimersburg.
