From "Ye OLD BURYING GROUND OF FAIRFIELD, CONN." by Mrs. Kate Perry, 105: "Mr. Sturges built the house in Southport, now owned by Mr. David Banks, in 1800. He built a vessel which was captured by the French on its first voyage. He was the father of the late Jonathan Sturges, the millionaire merchant, who with members of his family lie in the East Burying Ground."

He was the son of Jonathan & Deborah (Lewis) Sturges, and married Mary Sturges, daughter of Hezekiah & Abigail Sturges, on Sept. 29, 1791 in Fairfield, Conn.
