Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Brevet Captain in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Corporal in Company E, 11th Wisconsin Infantry for action on April 9, 1865 at Fort Blakely, Alabama. His citation reads "At the risk of his own life saved the life of an officer who had been shot down and overpowered by superior numbers."
