In 1940, John or Jay, as his family called him, married Ella Mae Frank, the daughter of Tingo and Amanda Jones Frank of Okemah, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma.
A short time after they were married, John and Ella moved to California, where they raised their three children...a girl and two boys.
Jay was employed as a structural engineer. He worked at a couple different places during his lifetime.
In his spare time, Jay loved to work with wood. He made all sorts of wood products. But, he especially liked building furniture. It was a talent all his own in which his wife didn't compete with him.
Jay and Ella had a pool table at home. As hard as he tried, she could out play him on most occasions. But, they loved the friendly compitition with each other.
For family outings, Jay and the gang went fishing, camping, and water sking. They loved the great outdoors; communing with nature was something they learned from their ancestors, and they continued the tradition.
John Charatis had three sisters that also lived in California at one time or the other. The sisters are all buried in different cemeteries in Southern California. His sister, Ruby Geboe Frank Comiskey is buried at the El Camino Memorial Park Cemetery at Sorrento Valley in San Diego. His sister, Willene Geboe Spangler is buried at Forrest Lawn Memorial Park at Hollywood Hills. And, his other sister, Mildred "May" Geboe Frank, is buried in the same Forrest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Covina Hills where he and his wife, Ella are now resting.
