She was the first daughter of John "Noggin" Carr and Phebe Hatcher Marshall. Her paternal grandfather was King Carr; grandmother, Elizabeth Beard Allen. Her maternal grandfather was Capt. Francis X. Marshall; grandmother, Sarah Jacobs.

There is some question as to whether or not she resided in Sumner or Smith County. Her death county is Macon County, Tennessee, as her grave stone is in the Marshall-Carr Family Cemetery.
