Aunt Thelma was always a quiet woman. Content to stay in the background but knowing her as I got older I know she had a huge impact on the world around her.
She had such a wonderful spirit, a warm loving heart and an understanding of people that, I think, came from her own life experiences.
When I was a little girl and they be getting ready to leave to go back home to Iowa, she'd always give me a hug and tell me, "You be pretty." I know she meant for me to behave myself. She knew me rather well I'm thinking... I was always up to some kind of prank or other.
I was discussing this with another cousin, Brenda, the other night and she remembered the same thing being said to her. Her nickname used by Aunt Thelma and Uncle Dood was, Bimbi. Have no clue where that came from.
I visited with Aunt Thelma in the elder care home where she lived the last little bit and we had some great talks. There were times she didn't know me and there were times that she did, but she was always the perfect hostess. She never missed a beat. She told me wonderful stories and I'll always cherish those visits with her.
One story was of when her only child, Pat, was born. They were living in the parsonage behind the little church in Parthenon, AR. when she went into labor with Pat. The midwife that was there with her kept telling her she couldn't make a lot of noise, that if she did the people at the church would her and what would they think. There was a revival taking place at the time at the church and back then the birth of a child was something that folks didn't want to know about until after the child was here.
In my mind I think of Aunt Thelma as a young woman giving birth to her first child, dealing with all the fear of the unknown and the expectation of having her babe in her arms... I can't imagine the emotions she must have dealt with.
Even though the world may not have seen her as such at first glance, she was a woman of tremendous strength and her character always stood out.

I loveyou and you are missed... xxoo

The Little Ship ♥¸¸.•*¨*•.. I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted her white sails with a golden light, and as she disappeared from sight a voice at my side whispered, "She is gone". But the sea was a narrow one. On the farther shore a little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly they caught sight of the tiny sail and at the very moment when my companion had whispered, "She is gone" a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, "Here she comes!" .•*¨*•.¸¸♥

You can shed tears that I am gone.
Or you can smile because I lived.
You can close your eyes
and pray that I will come back
Or you can open your eyes
and see all that I left.
Your heart can be empty
because you can't see me
Or you can be full
of the love we shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow
and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow
because of yesterday.
You can remember me
and only that I am gone
Or you can cherish my memory
and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what I'd want:
smile,
open your eyes,
love and go on.

Don't Cry for me...

If you could only see where I'm at now, you wouldn't cry for me. All of Heavens Angels met me when I arrived and I was met by Jesus with a loving embrace. I walked side by side with old friends and family alike. Don't cry for me because here there is no trace of sickness or sadness only His loving Grace. The beauty is beyond words and nothing I could say would compare. Don't cry for me because I am in a far better place, with streets of gold just like we were told. So please remember don't cry for me but rather rejoice for I can hear angels sing. Oh, how much peace their voices bring.
