Clara Louisa Melcher, born in Waterville, KS was the second of eight children of Gerhard Heinrich "Henry" Melcher and Regula Karolina "Karoline" Von Vaterlaus. Clara worked as a secretary to an attorney in Kansas until she married Edgar Frank Howard and moved to Venice, CA. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars. She was survived by her granddaughters Lori and Lisa Howard and many nieces and nephews on the Melcher side of the family.
