Polish Poet, Author, and Historian. Born in Ašmiany, Hrodzyenskaya Voblasts’, Belarus, he was the son of Karol Jankowski and Wanda Jankowska. He was a conservative activist in Vilnius, where he edited the newspaper the "Voice of Polish". He once was extremely popular poet and a leading columnist in Vilnius, but over the years and living in a country somewhat isolated from the world, he is now somewhat forgotten. In 1907, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Kurier Litewski [Lithuanian Daily]” He was also an outstanding translator; he translated the works nearly thirty-five French and German authors to his native language. As a historian, he interviewed descendants of 18th century poets and writers to collect their ancestor’s biographical information for publication. His article on poet Helena Modjeska has been quoted many times by other authors in their books of Polish history. He published fifteen books on Polish history, which include “The Nation of Poland and Strength of the Fatherland” in 1914 and “County Oshmiana: History of the Land and People” in 1900. His book “Young Poland in Song” is one of his most popular books, which can be found in the libraries of Harvard University and Columbia University of New York City. Another book “Poezye”, which was published in 1878, can be found at Harvard University; updates editions were published in 1881 and 1884. He was married Maria Jankowska and they had a family. Boleslaw Bałzukiewicz, a noted sculptor made his grave marker.
