Former Resident of Calistoga Has Died

Thomas W. Macaulay, former well-known resident of Calistoga, died in Berkeley last Saturday suddenly of heart failure. He was, before coming here, a miner in Siskiyou and Shasta Counties. In fact he spent all of the younger days of his life mining somewhere west of the Rocky Mountains. He once owned, operated and sold several of the most prominent mines in Siskiyou County.

Following the death of his wife several years ago, Macaulay divided his time between Santa Rosa and Fresno, living with his children. He was a native of Wisconsin and was 78 years old last June. Mrs. Rose Tomasi of Santa Rosa, formerly of Calistoga, is a daughter. There are four other children and thirteen grandchildren and a great grandchild. The funeral was held at Redding and interment made there.

Married July 21 1879 in Yreka, CA. Oro Fino is just next door to Fort Jones which are all in Scott Valley. After gold mining in the Siskiyou Mountains, Thomas & his wife Mary moved from Oro Fino to Calistoga to retire as it was known for its healing waters. They lived at 1322 Berry Street in Calistoga. After she passed he moved to Berkeley to live with his grandsons John "Jack" Macaulay and Carl Caya.
