Robert L. "Bob" Lewis, Jr., 66, a longtime anchor at WJHL passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Johnson City, he was the son of the late Robert L. Sr. and Doris Conley Lewis. He was a member of Watauga Presbyterian and also attended Bethlehem Lutheran. Bob was active in civic affairs, including the Bowling Senior League. Lewis began his career at WJHL in 1967, where he worked for 40 years, until he retired in 2007. Over those 40 years, he helped build the station's news presence. He worked as a cameraman, announcer, morning anchor, noon anchor and news director. Bob was known around WJHL for his coffee, spiced with humor. His coworkers thought of him more as a friend than a colleague. He was a true gentleman. After his retirement Mr. Lewis got his band back together, known as The Bob Lewis Band. Lewis played in many different bands until finally forming The Bob Lewis Band around 1975. The band played in different spots around the area until their final performance on New Year's Eve 1983. With his passing, Johnson City lost a diligent civic leader, a tireless community visionary and just about the best friend a charitable cause could have. He is survived by his loving wife: Madaline Lewis; son: Robert "Bobby" Lewis and wife Laura, Columbus, GA; daughter: Jessica Lewis Farnham and husband Richard, Atlanta, GA; step-daughters: Yvette Chapman and husband Scott, Johnson City, Kim Manning and husband Trey, Alger, OH, Jessica Joyner and husband Andrew, Johnson City; grandchildren: Sara, Julia, and Gracie Farnham, Nicholas Lewis, Kara Manning, Andrew Joiner II, and Phillip Joyner. A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Robert "Bob" Lewis, Jr. will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 22, 2012 in the Sunrise chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Pastor Steve Harmon officiating. A Graveside and Committal service will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Bob's close friends and associates. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the Sunset Room of Tetrick Funeral Services.
