Karol Lee Geffert, 62, a native of Haven, KS, currently of Coweta, OK, died Thursday, January 28, 2010, in Tulsa, OK. A visitation will be held from 3 PM to 5 PM Monday, February 1, at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner, OK. The graveside funeral service will be at 2:30 PM Tuesday, February 2 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Haven. The cemetery is located on the old family homestead land, on which Karol farmed as a youngster. Karol was born May 21, 1947 in Haven to Russell Frederick Geffert and Bessie (Mayfield) Geffert Kohler. He was active in the 4-H and the Kansas Jr. Hereford Assoc. After graduation from Haven High School Karol attended Hutchinson Junior College and Kansas State. His profession was a retail meat cutter specialist, but Karol generously gave his free time as a volunteer firefighter and with the mounted patrol while living in Cherokee County in Oklahoma. His care and concern for animals is reflected in the family's request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Blaze's Equine Rescue, c/o Natalie Cross, 17667 Markita Drive, Jones, OK 73049, or online. Karol is survived by his loving wife, Anne Geffert of the home; his mother, Bessie Kohler, and stepfather, Paul Kohler, of Haven; sister, Karen Bea Chambers of Cleburne, TX; a niece, Kandy Yates and her husband, Robert, and their daughter, Kaitlyn, all of Cleburne; a nephew, Price Chambers and his wife, Nancy, and their twin sons, Blaine and Braden, all of Rio Frio, TX; two brothers-in-law, Houston Ellis Benson, U.S. Navy, stationed in Oklahoma City, OK and Martin Benson of Tulsa, OK; mother-in-law, Ellen Passenheim Benson of Broken Arrow, OK; father-in-law, Rodney Clifford Walker of Encinitas, CA, Karol's nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law, Jay Travis Benson.
