Patriot newspaper, Monday, Aug 15, 1892:
CARLISLE, Aug 14.-- The Carlisle people were shocked last evening by the news that Dr. Charles H Hepburn had fallen dead in his office on East Main street. He was fifty-five years of age but much younger in appearance and had been apparently in the best of health.
During the day he had attended to business as usual and in the evening was sitting in his office reading when he fell forward. Medical aid was at once summoned but he was found to be beyond the reach of human help. Death was the result of heart disease. The deceased was one of the Carlisle's best known citizens and a leader in educational circles. A thorough scholar, he was eminently fitted for the sphere in which he moved. He was for many years a member of the Carlisle school board, and for some years past its president, and a leading factor at the Carlisle Indian school, with which he had been associated almost from its foundation. He there held the position of chief clerk, one of the most responsible posts in the institution. He was the son of ex-Judge Samuel Hepburn and was unmarried.
