John Carl "Johnny" Whitlock Sr., 81
(October 23, 1929 - August 1, 2011)

Warren County resident and native John Carl "Johnny" Whitlock Sr., 81, died Aug. 1 at River Park Hospital after a short illness. The son of the late O.H. and Evelyn (Hancock) Whitlock, he was the retired owner/operator of Whitlock Feed Mill in the Centertown community and was a member of Arlington Church of Christ.

He was born Oct. 23, 1929 in the Crisp Springs area of McMinnville. He went to elementary school at the now historical Grange Hall in a one-room log house, and high school at McMinnville Central. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1947.

After college, he joined his father in the produce and feed business in McMinnville. In addition, he farmed and ran several gas stations and restaurants. In 1967, he took over his father's business, the Whitlock Feed Mill in Centertown, and ran it until 1991 when he retired.

His community involvement included serving as alderman and vice-mayor of McMinnville, commissioner of Warren County Election Board, officer in the Warren County Republican Party, and a member of the Jaycees.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Golden Whitlock, son and daughter-in-law John and Cynthia Whitlock of Knoxville, brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Louise Whitlock of McMinnville, sister and brother-in-law Nancy Hallene and Jimmy Spangler of Murfreesboro, sister-in-law Henrietta Mabery of Huntsville, Ala,. and Alice Cantrell of McMinnville, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Fay and N.B. Stiles, Stella and Paul Grissom, and Nelta and Don Cantrell, all of McMinnville, and Edwin and Joyce Golden of Tishomingo, Ms., several nieces and nephews including special niece and husband, Jennifer and Jimmy West of McMinnville, and great-niece Lacey West of Nashville.

Funeral service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at High's Chapel with Wayne Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt.View Cemetery. Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at High Funeral Home. Pall bearers will be friends and nephews
