Lewis was the son of William Paul McKinley and Mary Chandler. He and his father were accused of the murder of his brother-in-law, Sprague Corley, and they were lynched by a mob of friends of the Corley family. They were actually innocent of the murder, as Lewis' brother Fred confessed to the crime. Lewis was unmarried.

Gravesite Details

Note: According to an eyewitness' ("Rusty" Spurlock) account, his father, J. B. Spurlock, and Jim Lowe took the bodies of Bill and Lewis McKinley to the graveyard in "Parker's pasture", and the graves were fenced.
