Glenn E. Core
Glenn E. Core, 91, of Nabors Road, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 24, 1908, in Cassville, son of the late Guy E. and Etta L. Shank Core.
He worked at a mining company store in Booth, then opened his own store in 1946 on University Avenue, and operated it until his retirement in 1975. He was a life member of Wesley United Methodist Church and served as a deacon. He was a member of the Izaa k Walton League and received the "Old Faithful Member" award in October 1999. He loved the outdoors and was a devoted raccoon hunter.
He is survived by a son, James G. Core, of Racine, Wis.; two stepdaughters and spouses, Sandy and Joe Cassella, of Morgantown, and Joyce and Alan Holmes, of Charleston; a brother, Carroll R. Core, of Morgantown; two sisters and spouse, Lois Fox, of Mount Morris, Pa., and LuLu and the Rev. George Pyle, of Core; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie "Betty" Core, on March 1, 1988; his second wife, Maxine Spiroff Core, in 1998; and three brothers, Willis D. Core, Dick V. Core and Beryl Core.
Service at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, with the Rev. Drs. Ken Ramsey and Stacy L. Groscup officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
