MORGANTOWN,WEST VIRGINIA -- Avon A. Mayfield, 42, of Route 5, Morgantown, died Monday morning unexpectedly.
He was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Preston County, a son of John L. and the late Goldie Helms Mayfield. He was formerly employed at the Rosedale Coal Company. He was a member of and served as recording secretary of the local union 8871 UMWA.
Surviving are his father, John L. Mayfield of Dellslow; his wife Laura Gay Runner Mayfield, and the following children at home, James Wayne, Gar, Avon and Carolyn; two brothers, Carl Mayfield of Gypsy, and Donald Mayfield of Star City and two sisters, Mrs. Earl Murray of Dellslow and Mrs. Victor Bloniarz of Start City.

MAYFIELD, Avon A., 42, of Route 5 died Monday. Friends may call at the Hastings Funeral Home after 11 a.m. Tuesday, where services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. E. S. Hoey officiating.
Burial follows in the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
