Royalty. Born the youngest son of Pedro III and Constance of Hohenstaufen. Although he was the second King Federico he called himself Federico III in honor of his great-grandfather Emperor Friedrich II, who had also been King of Sicily. His brother Jaime succeed their eldest brother Alfonso as King of Aragon and left Sicily in 1291. Federico was named governor of Sicily and succeeded him in 1296 after the treaty of Anagni had been signed. He shares a sarcophagus with his son Giovanni, his grand-daughter Maria and King Luigi.
