Civil War Union Brevet Major General. He served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 67th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General and Major General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services during the war." He was the brother of Colonel Edward E. Cross of the 5th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry.
