Pioneer Resident of Verndale Succumbs to Cancer, April 8, at Little Falls.
E.C. James, a pioneer resident of Verndale, passed away on Monday, April 8, at Little Falls, where he had resided for some time. Mr. James had been sick for a long time and his death occasioned no surprise. He suffered from cancer of the breast and it was known that he could not recover.
The deceased was a Verndale pioneer, having located in that village 30 years ago. Except for a short time when he was in the grocery business, he conducted a furniture store, but disposed of his business a few years ago, leaving shortly afterwards for Lille Falls to reside with his son. His wife died before he left Verndale and he is survived by one son, Willard James.
Mr. James was a true type of gentleman and he was universally esteemed in the community, where he lived for so many years. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Verndale Methodist church. Rev. Waters officiated The funeral was largely attended, old neighbors and friends of the deceased from near and far assembling to pay their last respects to the memory of him whom they had long known and learned to love.
