Alfred W. Froehlich, 89, of 2400 Highway 18 East, Brainerd, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
He was born April 24, 1910, in Winchester Township, Norman County, Ada, to William and Rosa (Scherf) Froehlich. He graduated from Bertha High School in 1927. He attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, N.D., and took his first position with the Otter Tail Power Co. in Fergus Falls in 1930. He married Lenore S. Anderson on April 7, 1935, at Fergus Falls. In 1943, he went to the Yukon Territory in Canada as assistant superintendent on a part of the Alcan Highway construction project. After two years with the Lakeside State Bank in Isle he resigned and set up his own accounting-insurance and real estate business in Isle. In 1954, he moved to Oak Lawn Township near Brainerd, where they lived except for two years when he was with the U.S. Forest Service at Isabella Ranger Station in the Superior National Forest. They returned to their Oak Lawn Township home in 1956 and he conducted an accounting-business service out of the home and also worked for the Minnesota Park's Department's Central Regional Office until his retirement in 1972. He served as clerk of the West Oak Lawn School until its consolidation with Brainerd. He also served as secretary-treasurer of the Oak Lawn Telephone Co. In recent years, he served as clerk of Oak Lawn Township. On Nov. 24, 1987, his wife, Lenore, died. He was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church and of Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd since 1954.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Moldenhauer, Long Prairie; three grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Marie Luedtke, Auburn, Wash.
