My Dad was a farm boy in his youth. He learned so much about farming that he wanted to leave so he hit out for St. Louis after graduating from high school in Shelbina, Mo. (1923). He worked in a department store for a couple of years till his Dad wanted him to come back to Shelbina and work in the grocery store with him. That's how he was hired by the Iowa Packing Co. as a traveling salesman. They were'nt kidding either. He married my mother, Luetta Ruth Schumacher, in DesMoines, Iowa October 1929. Between 1929 and 1950 we must have moved 25 times. Dad went with the Rath Packing Co. in 1942 and in August of 1944 he was transferred to Huntington. When he first came here he was working two routes, Huntington and Charleston. The 2nd WW effort was making a decided decrease in the labor force available in the United States.
