Archibald McAllister was the son of William McAllister and Hannah Shoudler. He was married to Abigail Ann Hazard in Albion, Orleans, New York in 1841 and they were the parents of five daughters.

"Archibald McAllister died at his residence, No. 1734 Indiana avenue, Saturday, Sept 29, of apoplexy, after an illness of two weeks, in the 68th year of his age. He was born at Salem, Washington County, N.Y. Feb. 13, 1816. At an early age he moved to Albion, Orleans County, where he engaged in business. In 1841 he married Anna A. Hazard, the only daughter of Uri Y. Hazard, of Ithica N.Y. In 1848 he removed to Plainfield, Will County, Ill., where he engaged extensively in farming and milling and was for many years identified with the interests of Will County. In 1867 he came to Chicago, where he resided until his death. He leaves a wife and five married daughters."
