William married Harriet Marden March 22, 1873 in Marine City, Michigan. Their four (4) oldest children were born in Canada prior to moving to Michigan.

William, Harriet and their children moved to Fremont Township in 1882 purchasing 40 acres with a one room log cabin on the property. The cabin did not contain doors or windows, just the openings. There was a small area on the property which was cleared.

William had the rest of the 40 acres to clear. When clearing the remainder of the stumps on the east side of the property his neighbor asked him to use the stumps for a fence, and he would pay him for it. William built the stump fence but when he asked for his pay the neighbor refused. William tore the stump fence out.

William sailed on the Great Lakes during the navigation season until about 1908. in 1916 William and Harriet sold their farm to their son, Hugh. William and Harriet moved to Roseburg and William started a fence supply business.

William and Harriet helped each of their sons purchase farms which were adjoining their farm in Fremont Township.
William's children were: William T Wilson, Harriet (Wilson) Garrison, Cora (Wilson) Graybiel, Frank Wilson, Emma (Wilson) McIntyre, Edward Wilson, Hugh Wilson, Mary Belle (Wilson) Hunt and Horace Wilson.
