Ernest D. Barnhart, 79, of St. Marys, W.Va., died Aug. 27, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a son of the late John D. and Nellie Maude Landy Barnhart.
He was a active member of Dewey Avenue Church of Christ, where he had been a Deacon. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he was a 1949 graduate of St. Marys High School and he was retired from Union Carbide after 35 years. His hobbies included church, gardening and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Barnhart; son, Mark Barnhart and his wife, Lori, of St. Marys; grandsons, Derek Barnhart, Trenton Barnhart and Grant Barnhart; two sisters, Sybil Barkes of Huntington, W.Va., and Ada Hartman and her husband, Roy, of Summersville, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Barnhart, Elizabeth Miller and Mabel Powell; and one brother, Walter Barnhart.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Dan Kessinger officiating. Interment will be in Newport Cemetery, Newport, Ohio. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
