Farmer and auctioneer. Longtime dairy farmer in Sheboygan County. Born in the Town of Lima, he was the son of George Peter Hoffmann and Alvina Mathilda Aguste Schwalbe. Intitially married Gertrude Lautenbach on May 20, 1939 with whom he had a son, George K. Hoffmann. Gertrude died of complications related to the birth of George. Subsequently Herbert married Esther Fuerstenau on October 30, 1948.

HERBERT J. HOFFMANN

Herbert J. Hoffmann, 66, 409 Stafford St., Plymouth, died at Plymouth Hospital Wednesday evening where he had been a patient for five days.

Born Sept 15, 1909, in the Town of Lima, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hoffmann, he attended the district Banner School, live and farmed in the Town of Lima and was employed at the Lakeshire Cheese Co. in Plymouth.

He also farmed in the Town of Mosel and was employed by Gabe's Construction Co. and at Bruggink Implement Co.
Mr. Hoffmann Served as custodian of St. John Lutheran School in Plymouth for four years, and was an auctioneer in the community.

He also served Grace Lutheran Church, Haven, and St. Thomas Lutheran Church in the Town of Lima as an elder and St John Lutheran Church as an elder and an usher.

For the past two years he has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Elkhart Lake, and has served as clerk of the Banner School board. He was also a driver for the Stagecoach Bus Line in Sheboygan County.

On May 20, 1939, he married Gertude Lautenbach in Plymouth. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1940.

On Oct. 30, 1948, he married Mrs. Ester f Lenz in Milwaukee.

He is survived by his widow, one son, George, Town of Mosel, two granddaughters; two brothers and three sisters, Charles Allmann, Sheboygan Falls, Elmer of Oostburg, Mrs. Warren Wightman, Plymouth, Mrs. Edgard LeMahieu, Cedar Grove and Mrs. Fred Beisser, Sheboygan Falls.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, the Rev. Marvin Nicolaus, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Waldo Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wittkopp Funeral Home, Plymouth, from 3p.m. Friday until 10 a.m.Saturday and at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Hoffmann's name.
