Lucy was born in 1909 in Tarkington Prairie, Texas. She was the daughter of William Henry Purswell and Harriet Evans Lee Purswell.

She married Clifford Farrow in 1930. She married Gilbert Oliver Moody in 1940 in New York City.

She had a daughter, Velda Irene Farrow Kubala who was born in 1931 and died in an automobile accident in 1970.

Lucy had two sisters, Ola Lee Purswell Blazek and Winnie D Purswell Cooper.

Lucy died in 1977 from cirrhosis of the liver caused by chronic hepatitis.

Her middle initial, B did not stand for anything and was never written with a period. It was just the letter B. The middle initial of her sister, Winnie was just the letter D. It also did not stand for anything and was not written with a period.

Lucy was also called "Red" because of her red hair. It was an unusual shade of red, almost orange, that is sometimes called "honey blonde".
