FOREST CITY - Paul O. Larson, 79, of Forest City, died Monday (June 30, 2003) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. Paul Owen Larson was born Nov. 26, 1923, at Adams, Minn., the first child of Hogan and Mabel (Viste) Larson. His father (Haakon August) was an immigrant from Sweden and his mother was a first generation Norwegian. Paul graduated from Adams High School in 1941 and then worked at the Masonic Home farm near Bloomington, Minn. He went into the Army in 1945 and drove heavy equipment on the loading docks in the South Pacific. Returning from the war, he was introduced by friends to his future wife; they were married in 1949. Their first home was in Blooming Prairie, Minn., where their daughters were born. After working at an implement dealer and a creamery, Paul decided to go to college to further his career. The family moved to Houston, Texas and Paul spent four years at the University of Houston to earn a degree in diesel engineering. While going to school he supported his family as a welder and working in the gas station business with his brothers-in-law. In 1966, the family moved to Cedar Falls, where Paul worked at the John Deere research and development center in the engines division. He retired from John Deere in June 1987 and they moved to an acreage near Forest City where he could enjoy working outside and helping his son-in-law on the farm. He was very happy that both of his daughters married men with a love of farming and green and yellow equipment in the shed. Paul was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. He had a good church choir baritone voice. Paul is survived by his wife; his two daughters and their families. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister and their spouses, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law and a niece. Funeral services were held at Pilot Knob Lutheran Church in rural Forest City with the Rev. Bob Snitzer officiating. Burial was at Pilot Knob Lutheran Cemetery in rural Forest City. Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City, was in charge of the arrangements.
