LaVonne E. Woodring, 86 of Shell Rock, Iowa, and formerly of Waverly died on Monday, July 30, 2012, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center from congestive heart failure.

LaVonne was born on July 17, 1926, south of Tripoli in Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Bertha (Rathe) Peters. On September 1, 1926 La Vonne was baptized at St. Matthew Church, Readlyn, and attended country school Fremont #8. LaVonne worked for a short time for the Readlyn Telephone Company.

On December 11, 1949, La Vonne was united in marriage to Richard Woodring at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Readlyn. The couple made their home in Waverly. La Vonne was employed by Bobins Super Market in Waverly. Dick passed away July 3, 2005 and LaVonne continued living in Waverly until she moved to The Meadows Assisted Living in Shell Rock, Iowa.

She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. LaVonne was a devoted wife and mother. LaVonne, Dick and Jean were very dedicated to Janet and all worked hard to give her the quality of life that she deserved. LaVonne loved spending time with family, friends, and most of all she was very proud of her grand and great-grandchildren. LaVonne was an excellent quilter, seamstress, and enjoyed reading quilting magazines and short stories. Her love for quilting was evident in her talent for it. She and Dick also enjoyed traveling with Jan in their motor home. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Waverly Chapter O.E.S #353.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Woodring of Shell Rock; her son-in-law, Joe (Kathy) Myer of Lake City, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Andrew Myer of Columbus, Wisconsin, Melissa (Lyle) Phillips of Edgerton, Wisconsin; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan, Caitlyn, and Nolan; three brothers, Elmer Peters of Tripoli, Elston (Gladys) Peters of Washburn, Vernon (Verdeen) Peters of Cedar Falls; one sister, Janice Risse of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews.
