Ruth Jensen McWilliams, formerly of Darien, CT and Eastham, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2009, after a brief illness. She had been a resident of Brighton Gardens in Danvers, MA for a number of years.

Mrs. McWilliams was born in Greenwich, CT in 1919 to the late Carl C. (Chris) Jensen and Esther Broman Jensen. Her father was owner of the one-time Greenwich Car Company. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1941. During World War II, she was executive secretary to the president of Electrolux Corporation in Stamford, CT.

She married Alden Spurr (Mac) McWilliams of Riverside, CT in 1946. Mr. McWilliams was a nationally recognized commercial artist, drawing (and later writing as well) the widely-recognized comic strips of Twin Earths, Davy Jones and Dateline: Danger among numerous others. He also drew the I Spy, Star Trek, Wild Wild West and He-Man comic books. He passed away in 1993. Mrs. McWilliams had two sons, Chris Jensen McWilliams and Alden Richard McWilliams. She relocated from Darien to Massachusetts in 1996. Mrs. McWilliams greatly enjoyed traveling, gardening and studying the stock market. Family, friends and Cape Cod were especially meaningful to her. She was a member of the Darien Garden Club, League of Women Voters in Darien and was a 2nd vice president on Skidmore's Alumnae Board. Additionally, she actively supported her son's activities, especially scouting and sports. She was a survivor of Boston's fabled Coconut Grove fire.
