Almy Armstrong was born on December 1,1888 aboard her father's ship off the coast off the coast of Nicaragua. Her parents divorced and she spent her childhood in the Sailor Snug Harbor's Home for Destitute Children. She left the home once she was considered an adult and moved north to Fort Fairfield, Maine. She would spend the remainder of her life in the state of Maine and lived the longest of her two siblings.
