Professional Basketball Player. For twelve seasons (1975 to 1987), he played at the forward and center positions in the American and National Basketball Associations with the Indianapolis Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and Washington Bullets. Born Danny Thomas Roundfield, he attended Chadsey High School in Detroit where he first achieved greatness on the basketball court. He continued his athletic greatness at Central Michigan University where he earned Mid American Conference Player of the Year honors in 1975. He was selected as the first pick of the 1975 ABA Draft by Indianapolis and following the league's folding after that season, he remained with the Pacers when they joined the NBA. During his years with Atlanta, he distinguished himself as he earned All-Star honors three consecutive years (1980 to 1982) and produced a career-high 1,464 points during the 1982-1983 season. His final two years with the Hawks (1982 to 1984), he comprised a formidable offensive combination with Dominique Wilkins. In 813 regular season games, he compiled 11,657 points. After retiring from basketball, Roundfield (who earned a degree in Marketing) went into business in the private sector. He was inducted into the Central Michigan University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985 and his uniform number 32 was retired. While vacationing with his family in Aruba, he drowned trying to save his wife who was in difficulty as she was swimming (she was unharmed). At the time of his death, he was due to be enshrined into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
