Major League Baseball Player. A lifetime .285 hitter, he played 10 seasons in the majors, eight of them for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Never much of a power threat, he nonetheless twice batted over .300 for Pittsburgh, and was a steady influence in the outfield where he teamed with the Waner brothers (Paul and Lloyd) for four years. He was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates on October 17, 1933 along with Tony Piet to the Cincinnati Reds for Red Lucas and Wally Roettger. After his career he opened a store in his native Swoyersville, Pennsylvania, where he passed away from acute myocardial failure due to syphilis in 1951 at the age of 45. Over the course of his career he played in 813 Major League games, hit 28 home runs and drove in 418 RBI's along with 57 stolen bases.
