Professional Football Player. For five seasons (1966 to 1967, 1969 to 1971), he played at the defensive back position in the National Football League with the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Lions. Raised in Nebraska, he attended Lincoln High School and played collegiate football at the University of Central Oklahoma. While with the Bronchos, Williams lettered in track and was a prominent member of their football squad which captured the 1962 NAIA National Championship. In addition, he earned All-Conference status in 1965. Selected by the Cardinals during the 1966 NFL Draft, he appeared in 69 regular season games. Williams established himself as a topnotch special teams player and distinguished himself as he led the NFL with a 33.1 kick return average in 1969. After retiring from football, he worked with a private industry. He was inducted into the University of Central Oklahoma Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995.
