Revolutionary War Veteran

Lincoln County Militia, Georgia

Father of Confederate President Jefferson DavisSamuel, according to a family history written before 1931 by his great grand-son, was a volunteer during the Revolution, serving at the Battle of Saratoga under General Gates and General Arnold. Later in the war, Samuel and Enoch Garner (a friend and later in-law) helped to carry the mortally wounded General DeKalb from the field after a defeat in battle.
Afterwards, Samuel and Enoch served the remainder of the war under the command of General Green and were present at the British Surrender at Yorktown, VA. (I have no coroborating documentation for this other than the family history mentioned earlier, but if a reader does, I would appreciate citing it.)

Samuel was a graduate of Princeton College (University), NJ, after the Revolutionary War, and was ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church. He was the first minister of a church built on land donated by his father in law, Benjamin Davidson. There, he served as minister until at least his 70th birthday.

He was married in 1794 to Rhodia DAVIDSON (born in NC).
Their Children were:

1. James "Jimmie" (born 1795 in NC) who married a woman with the name LEMONS.
2. Selina (born 1795 in NC) who married Grady JOHNSON.
(Note: James & Selina were twins.)
3. Ethan Allen, born July 26, 1798 in Davidson River, NC; Married to Elizabeth GARNER in 1829; died Oct. 13, 1876 in Greenville, SC.

(The above information is compiled from a DAVIS family history compiled about 1932.)
