Hon James B. Straw, City Auditor of Manchester, NH, died at his home in that city yesterday aged 63 yrs and 9 months. The deceased had been sick only a week. The cause of death was due to a complication of diseases. [MY NOTE: Death certificate gives his age as 62y 9m]
Mr Straw was a native of Lowell, Mass, but went to Manchester more than 40 years ago. He was appointed City Auditor in 1890 by Hon David R. Varney and had just been re-elected for the fourth consecutive time. He was a member of the Board of Aldermen during the Administration of Hon. Ira Cross(?) in 1876 and again in 1878 during the time Hon. John L. Kelley sat in the chair.
The deceased was a radical Republican and an old time Abolitionist and one of the most exciting events in his career was a personal encounter he had with the late ex Mayor E. W.
