CHERRY VALLEY — Ms. Gladys I. Welch, 78, passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born May 14, 1921, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Orlando and Nellie (Page) Bridger.

She attended Cherry Valley Central School, was a longtime member of the Phoenix, Ariz., VFW, and an avid baseball fan of the Mets. She loved to read to her great-grandchildren, do crossword puzzles, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Joan Weiner, whom she resided with of Cherry Valley, Norma Duncan of Richfield Springs and Laraine and Albert Loomis of Utica; a son, David Morton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman and Ida Mae Bridger of Cooperstown and David and Mereitta Bridger of Roseboom; eight sisters and five brothers-in-law, Hilda Pomery of Fulton, Elizabeth and Robert O'Brien, Mildred and Gerald Jennings of Cooperstown, Cora Petrucco of Cortland, Wanda Layman, Evelyn and Gordon Gray, Wilma and Roland Dyer, Lois and Gene Smith; and a sister-in-law, Rose Bridger, all of Cooperstown; nine grandchildren, Tony and Gail Miles of Cherry Valley, Sherry and Henry VanBrink of Georgia, Jeffery and Laura Miles of East Springfield, Sophie and Russ Johnson of Cherry Valley, Anna Clements of Richfield Springs; eight great-grandchildren, Tonya, Austin, Austin Jr. Daley, Craig and Ashley Miles, Taylor Miles, Alec Denninger, Ethan Johnson; two stepgrandchildren and their husbands, Cecile and Lynn Cohen and family of Syracuse, and Dena and David Rozenholc and family of New York City; and lots of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, with Mr. Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley.

Calling hours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at the funeral home.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Morton; two brothers, Chester and Frederick Bridger; and a son-in-law, George Weiner.

Contributions in Ms. Welch's memory may be made to the Cherry Valley Fire Department, Cherry Valley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
