Jefferson coal miner retired from General Electric
Leonard Ralph Martin, 90, of Jefferson, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in Haney's Personal Care Home, Rices Landing. He was born May 21, 1917, in Perryopolis, a son of Lewis and Chalotta (Lottie) Ball Martin. Mr. Martin was a retired coal miner from Mather Collieries and also retired from General Electric in Cleveland, Ohio. He was Baptist and a social member of American Legion Post 954 of Jefferson. On May 25, 1935, he married Naomi (Naoma) Dowlin, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Carole Sherman of Mentor, Ohio, Karen Seals and husband John "Beanie" of Newton Falls, Ohio, Phyllis Fike and husband Rick of Akron, Ohio, and Debbie Parks and husband George of Willoughby, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are an infant daughter, Joan Martin; two sisters, Ruth Hegendeffer and Norma Orndoff; and two brothers, Harold and Wade Martin.
Friends will be received from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 1 p.m., the hour of services, Saturday, March 1, in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, with Pete Arigoni officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Cemetery.
