Roman Catholic Pope. Born Lamberto Scannabecchi of humble family, he became Archdeacon of Bologna, then under Pope Urban II joined the papal court. Pope Paschal II made him Cardinal-Bishop of Ostia, and Pope Calixtus II sent him as legate to the famous Diet of Worms. His pontificate achieved reform within the church and peace between the Holy See and world rulers. He supported Lothair II in the disputed imperial election, and Lothair, after becoming emperor, conceded the Church's demands in the matter of episcopal elections. He served as Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church from December 24, 1124 to his death in 1130.
