From The Altar To The Grave
Married. On Wednesday, December 7th, 1870, at Lexington, Kentucky, Maggie B. Beck, to James Corcoran.
Died. December 27th, in Washington, D.C., Maggie Beck Corcoran, wife of James Corcoran, aged 21 years.
The first of the above notices was published in The Star about three weeks ago; the other appears in our obituary column today and together they tell a sorrowful story. Mrs. Corcoran, who stood before the altar a bride just twenty days ago, died of typhoid fever at half past eleven o'clock this morning, at No. 1509 H Street, between 15th Street and Vermont Avenue. She was well known in Washington society and fashionable circles generally, being the daughter of Honorable James B. Beck, of Kentucky and was married, as above stated, to Mr. James Corcoran, nephew of W.W. Corcoran Esq., of this city, on the 7th instant. The marriage was attended with great ceremony and the bridal pair reached this city on Thursday the 15th instant, when symptoms of typhoid fever, noticed by some of her friends before her marriage, developed to such an extent that she was soon taken down with the disease which has terminated so fatally. The body is laid out in her bridal dress and will be removed on Thursday morning next to the residence of Mr. W.W. Corcoran, opposite Lafayette Square, from whence the funeral will place on Thursday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. The remains will be placed in the chapel at Oak Hill Cemetery for the present, previous to future interment in Mr. Corcoran's family lot.
