The following was taken from a booklet prepared by the people of the Anniston First United Methodist church.
I shall never forget his (Rev Burns) first Sunday with us. Arriving at the church before time for Sunday School, I saw a man coming across the lawn from the parsonage to the church. He was carrying his wife in his arms. He told me that he was the new preacher, and he introduced me to his lovely wife, Clara. (I later learned that she belonged to one of Birmingham's most respected families, and that her maiden name was Clara Gockel) Some years following their marriage she ceased to be ambulatory, and would never walk again! I managed to arrive early, so that I might see him walking across the lawn with his lady in his arms! I used to think, as a little boy, "He must be very sad, deep down inside." But he managed to hide his hurt from the world.
To their marriage union a son was born. Dr. Francis Burns is a physician and surgeon in Hannibal, Missouri.
Omar's beloved Clara died on April 17, 1935.
