Earl Joseph 'E.J.' Banks Jr., 87, of Galena, formerly of Belle and Marshall, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Christian Health Care in Nixa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Marshall Community of Christ Church in Marshall, with Jerry Henry and Arlin Epperson officiating.

The burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall.

Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2011, at Belle Community of Christ Church in Belle.

Born August 9, 1923, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Earl Joseph Banks Sr. and Fairy Marie Parson Banks.

On October 4, 1942, he married Mary Louise Kemple, who preceded him in death in 2006.

He was a 1941 graduate of Marshall High School.

He was a Veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Iceland.

He had lived in Belle since 1972, moving from Marshall.

He most recently lived in Galena.

He and his wife owned and operated several restaurants in Marshall and Belle.

He was a member of the Community of Christ, serving as pastor of the churches in Linn and in Belle for many years.

He was also preceded in death by one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Gene Banks of Springfield, Kenneth LaVerne Banks of Blackburn and Richard Leland Banks of Orange, TX; one daughter, Lynda Ruth Jenkins of Galena; one brother, Dean Banks of Marshall; one sister, Maxine Scott of Marshall; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
