Ellinwood -- Charles J. Billinger, 83, died April 24 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 6, 1916, in St. Peter, the son of Joseph P. and Clara Reidel Billinger.

He married Beatrice Rome Nov. 27, 1945, at St. Peter. She died July 10, 1974. He married Irene Harris June 26, 1977, at Great Bend. She died Dec. 7, 1996. He married June Buczinski Oct. 23, 1999, at Great Bend.

A resident of Barton County since 1945, coming from St. Peter, he was a carpenter for Alvin Schneider Constructions and Marlett Homes. Billinger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, Knights of Columbus in Hoisington, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and American Legion Argonne Post 180, both of Great Bend, and past president of Cowboy Sams of Barton County.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Charles P. Billinger of Great Bend; three daughters, Toni Schneweis, Mary Ann Charles and Cecilia Conrad, all of Hoisington; three stepsons, Larry Buczinski of Ellinwood, Dan Buczinski of Wichita and Fred Vielhauer of Philadelphia, Pa.; four stepdaughters, Christina Reed of Houston, Texas, Diana Rightmire of Kansas City, Mo., Dolores Pratt of Albany, N.Y., and Diane Wilhelm of Great Bend; one brother, Edmund Billinger of Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Mary Miller of Hays, Clem Shives of Hoisington, Barb Knoll of Derby and Rosie Fabricius of Great Bend; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 29 step grandchildren; and 28 step great-grandchildren.

Vigil will be 7:30 p.m. tonight at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs. Warren Stecklein and David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend, from 6:30-9 tonight at the church and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick School Endowment Fund, St. Joseph School Endowment Fund and Hoisington Baseball Program, all in care of the funeral home.
