Civil War Union Army Officer. Chaplain of the 15th New Jersey Volunteers from 1853 to 1865, Pastor of North Hardyston Congregation for 25 years, son of two-time New Jersey Governor Daniel Haines and brother of Captain Thomas Ryerson Haines of the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry. He wrote the work "The History of the Fifteenth Regiment New Jersey Volunteers", published in 1883.
