Lucy A. Cornett, age 68, of 4 Grove Avenue, Shelby, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital following complications after surgery.

She was born September 26, 1933 in Shelby the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Rose (Riedy) Sheridan. Lucy retired from Shelby Home and Public Health where she worked as a home health aide for 20+ years. After her retirement she continued to help and assist in caring for others. Lucy loved to camp and she and her husband, Rebel, volunteered at Delaware State Park for 20 years. They were the first volunteers in the state of Ohio to achieve and receive a 20-year pin. She was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby.

Lucy is survived by her husband, Rebel D. Cornett, whom she wed on July 31, 1953; 2 daughters and one son-in-law: Lucinda A. Fitts of Westland, MI and Rebecca L. and Daniel Mahl of Willard; 1 son and daughter-in-law: Matt and Sandra Cornett of Crestline; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Lydia Castle of Shelby; 4 sisters and a brother-in-law: M. Catherine "Katie" and Roger Adam of Shelby, Martha White and Berdie Lambert both of Mansfield, and Barbara Gillingham of Romulus, MI.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons: Christopher Cornett in 1977 and David L. Cornett in 1992; a great-grandson, Andrew Thomas Beck in 2001; 3 brothers: Charles, Robert, and Donald Sheridan; 3 sisters: Helen Thompson, Edith Krause, and Dolores Pyles.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 5, 2002, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 6, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery.
