Struggle For Gun Results In Death

Role of peacemaker resulted fatally for Aaron Beard, 21, in the small hours of last Sunday morning at the home of Mrs. Donnie Peak in the White Bluff community, about four miles north of Morgantown.

According to reports, Mrs. Peak was attempting to take a gun which Hubert Smith was flourishing, and Aaron Beard came to her assistance. As he leaned over to get the gun, John Smith, Hubert's brother, is alleged to have cut Beard's throat with a razor said to have been procured from the Peak home.

Both John and Hubert Smith were taken into custody by Sheriff R. R. Hathorn and are being held for a preliminary hearing. The Sheriff secured gun and razor as evidence to be produced at the hearing.

Funeral services were held for Aaron Beard, who is survived by his wife and one child, at Morgantown, Monday. The deceased was a farmer on the Wilmon McCaffrey place below Tylertown, and was visiting in Marion county for the weekend, it is reported.
