LORINO, SAM EDWARD Age 89, of Hoover, Alabama passed away Wednesday night, September 12, 2012. The Birmingham, Alabama native was a loving husband, devoted father, fun-loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and cherished friend. Sam was a self-employed business owner, private airplane pilot, hunting and fishing enthusiast, and life-long Alabama football fan. He and his wife Catherine are founding members of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Birmingham, where he has been active as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Frank J. and Rosilee Lorino; parents-in-law, Tony and Lillie Guzzetta; son-in-law, Vincent Lanzi; and brothers-in-law, Benjamin E. Guzzetta and Paul Maniscalco. Survivors include Sam's wife of 69 years, Catherine Guzzetta Lorino; one daughter, Rose Mary Lorino Lanzi; three sons, Frank Lorino (Jennie), Robert Lorino (Anne), and Sam Lorino; eight grandchildren, Mark Lanzi (Robin), Anthony Lorino (Kelli), Brian Lorino, Michael Lorino (Tera), Phillip Lorino, Stephanie Lorino, Mary Catherine Boteler (Shane), and Catherine Janann Lorino; 13 great-grandchildren, Stephen Lanzi, Joseph Lanzi, Matthew Lanzi, Paul Lanzi, Anthony Lanzi, Madison Lorino, Faith Lorino, Frankie Lorino, Scarlet Boteler, Chase Lorino, Zachery Lorino, Sloan Lorino, and Abbie Lorino; and two sisters, Constance Maniscalco and Anita Marino (Sal). Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, followed by the Funeral Mass. Burial, Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 5510 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, AL 35242.
