English Royalty. Born at Windsor Castle, the daughter of Edward I 'Longshanks', King of England and Eleanor de Castilla, the eleventh of the couple's seventeen children. In 1284, she entered the Benedictine orders and became a nun at Amesbury Abbey,Wiltshire. She apparently held the post of vicegerent and visitatrix which granted her the responsibility to authorize the transfer of nuns between convents. She died about age 54 and was buried at Amesbury Abbey*. She was also known as Mary of England and Mary of Woodstock.

*Once the Abbey church of the Order of Fontevrault, now Anglican parish church.
