Samantha "Elizabeth" Gray was the eldest child of John William Gray and Euphamie Williamson. She married Edgar Daniel Towns on August 25, 1903 in Washington County, Kansas. They were the parents of Harrison William, Frank Oliver, Erma Euphame, Harley Daniel and Vern LeRoy Towns. She was widowed when she was only 28 years old but she never remarried.

Elizabeth once told a granddaughter-in-law that her real name was Samatha (no N) but we have no proof of that. She always wore dresses except for the one time that the men were away and Elizabeth and her daughter-in-law (Harley's wife) took the car for a drive. It got very dirty and muddy and the two ladies donned pants to clean it up before the menfolk got home.

There had been a tradition during her father's life that the family would gather and have a big celebration on his birthday. After his death, the tradition continued with Elizabeth.
