Historical Novelist and Meteorologist. While employed by the Japan Meteorological Agency, Nitta helped set up the Mt. Fuji radar dome on the summit of Japan's most famous mountain. Today, the "Mt. Fuji Radar Dome Pavilion" at the foot of the mountain serves as an educational facility. His better known literary works include "The Valleys and Villages of the Alps," "An Alaskan Tale," "Phantom Immigrants" and "Death March on Mount Hakkoda." The 1977 movie "Hakkodasan (Mount Hakkoda)" was based on the latter work.
