Princess of Norway. She was the oldest child and daughter of King Olav V of Norway and Princess Martha of Sweden, granddaughter of King Haakon VII of Norway, great-granddaughter of King Edward VII of England, and member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg. She was the first Norwegian princess born on Norwegian soil for 629 years. On May 15, 1953, she married Erling Sven Lorentzen, a shipping magnate and army officer who served as her bodyguard during World War II after the Nazi invasion of Norway, when her family was living in exile in Washington DC. Following her marriage, she was officially known as Princess Ragnhild, Mrs. Lorentzen. Her younger brother, King Harald V, ascended the Norwegian throne after the death of her father in 1991. She and her husband moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he had substantial business holdings. She died following a lengthy illness.
